Event #73: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event

The 2019 World Series of Poker $10,000 Main Event is just one day away from crowning a champion as the final trio remains out of a field of 8,569 entries with a WSOP Main Event bracelet for the winner and the payday of $10,000,000 that comes along with it.

Hossein Ensan finished Day 7 and 8 at the top of the leaderboard and made it three in a row by establishing a commanding lead at the end of Day 9. Ensan increased his stack by more than 50% on the day and bagged up 326,800,000.

That’s nearly two times as many chips as Alex Livingston (120,400,000) and Dario Sammartino (67,600,000) have combined at their disposal.

Claiming the second bracelet of his career yesterday was Tom Koral who outlasted a field of 2,589 entries and earned the top prize of $530,164. Koral is primarily a mixed game player, but didn’t seem to hinder him on his way to victory in the most popular format of the game. Barry Shulman also final tabled this event seeking his third bracelet but instead found third place coming up just short.

Event #84: The Closer – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em

The three opening flights of the repeat popular event attracted 2,337 entrants with about half of those coming from yesterday’s Day 1c field. Today was originally scheduled to be the final day, however, like several other tournaments this Summer, it may very well be extended an additional day as the large field still has 196 players returning. Notables Shaun Deeb, Ari Engel and Jeff Gross all bring in healthy stacks today but it is Tam Nguyen who leads them all in the hunt for the bracelet and the nearly half a million prize of $490,359.

Event #85: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed

This event will award one of the final bracelets of the Summer today with just six players remaining out of the original field of 835 entrants. Millard Hale is in first place for chip counts but John Richards is also close on his heels with Joseph Cheong coming into the day as the short stack. In addition to their very first WSOP bracelet, the remaining contestants are battling for the $448,392 up top.

Event #86: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship

This tournament saw 24 players join in on the action before the start of yesterday’s Day 2 to round out the field of 272 entries in the final $10,000 buy-in event of the World Series. Only 16 players survived to find a bag yesterday and return today with Anuj Agarwal leading the way and aiming for the whopping $630,747 first place prize. Two previous bracelet winners also remain in the hunt for their next one with Ben Heath securing a healthy stack and Gal Yifrach bagging the shortest stack of the remaining players. The tournament is scheduled to play down to the final six today however with only 16 remaining it’s possible tournament staff could let it play out to the end.

Event #87: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E.

The final mixed-game event of the World Series kicked off yesterday drawing 301 entrants to create a prize pool of over $800,000 with first place taking home $206,173. Harold Klein enters the day as the chip leader but defending champion Brian Hastings also bagged a decent stack and is in contention for the rare back-to-back repeat with 127 players returning. Hastings has found plenty of success at the World Series in his career, already in possession of four gold bracelets.

Event #73: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em MAIN EVENT – World Championship

The main kicked off the first day of the final table yesterday with plenty of chips flying. The original plan was to play down to six from the nine who began the day, however, after only 56 hands play was stopped with just five remaining in contention for the prestigious bracelet and $10,000,000 prize that awaits the eventual champion. Hossein Ensan entered the day as the massive chip leader and was able to hold onto that position but Garry Gates also chipped up yesterday and the two big stacks hold around 75 percent of the chips in play between them. Yesterday saw Milos Skrbic take ninth for $1,000,000, Timothy Su eighth for $1,250,000, Nick Marchington seventh for $1,525,000, and then finally Zhen Cai for $1,850,000.

One of the final mixed games events of the Summer came to a close with Sweden’s Jerry Odeen claiming the title and $304,793. Odeen had to not only work through two games of alternating No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha, but also the 1,250 entry field which contained multiple notables with the likes of Greg RaymerVivian SalibaChris FergusonAri Engel, Jonathan Little, and Craig Varnell. Odeen only arrived in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago but will be leaving town with a bracelet on his wrist and a dream of WSOP glory fulfilled.

Event #83: $100,000 High Roller

The event that drew much of the attention yesterday was certainly the $100,000 high roller final table with a notable pro occupying every seat. The day saw many stacks rise and fall, but when the dust settled it was Keith Tilston emerging at the top of the 99 player field for a whopping $2,792,406 after defeating Daniel Negreanu heads up. Negreanu entered the day with the shortest stack of the remaining six players but was able to find 5 double ups in order to play heads-up for his sixth bracelet for the second time this Summer. The key hand which ending up denying him that privilege was catching a nine high flush under Tilton’s ten high flush for most of his chips and was unable to recover. The highest buy-in event of the Summer saw the top three places all pay out over a million dollars. Notable pro and poker commentator Nick Schulman locked up a third-place finish with Igor Kurganov busting just prior to him in fourth. It was no surprise to have Germany once again making its presence felt on the high roller scene with Dominik Nitsche final tabling for 6th place and Steffen Sontheimer just missing out on doing so as well, busting in 11th.

Despite bagging an impressive stack of over 1.1 million chips from the 25,000 starting stack, Deeb still finds himself chasing flight 1a Chipleader Roman Korenev. Today will mark the third and final starting flight of this event as players will look to get into one of the final chances of WSOP gold left this Summer.

Event #85: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed

Just 24 players remain out of the original field of 835 entrants and play is scheduled to condense down to the final table of six today. Defeating a record field of 6,246 entries was James Anderson who took home his very first bracelet along with a $690,686 first place prize. Fernando Karam battled Anderson heads up but was denied his third bracelet of the Summer in the end. Although no stranger to success in poker tournaments having already surpassed the two million dollar mark on Hendon Mob, this marks Anderson’s largest score of his career.

Event #78: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Bounty

Vegas first-timer Maximilian Klostermeier claimed his first bracelet yesterday walking away a score of $177,823 in addition to all of the $500 bounties he collected for eliminating some of the 1,130 entries. He defeated David Callaghan heads up who also walked away with a six-figure score of $109,844. Event #81: $1,500 Bracelet Winners Only Event

In the only event of the Summer that was guaranteed to see someone add to their bracelet collection, Shankar Pillai took it down for $71,580. Pillai defeated a stacked field of 185 entries on his way to donning his second bracelet. It had been a gap of over a decade since his first bracelet win back in 2007 in a $3,000 No Limit Hold’Em event. This was a first-time event at the World Series this year and drew one of the smaller fields of the Summer, however, when everyone in the tournament has already won before the path to victory is certainly much more challenging.

Shankar Pillai

Event #79: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em

Ivan Deyra saw himself hit multiple milestones of his poker career as he not only took home his first WSOP gold bracelet and $380,090 but also surpassed the one million dollar mark in tournament earnings. Deyra had to go through 671 entries in order to achieve his life long dream of owning a bracelet, eventually defeating David Gonzalez heads up who had the misfortune to bluff for all his chips when Deyra held a full house.

Event #83: $100,000 High Roller

The biggest buy-in event of the Summer played down to the final six of the 99 entries yesterday with Keith Tilston bagging up the chip lead after his pocket kings cracked Sergi Reixachs aces late in the day. Fans will see an exciting final table of all notable pros battle it out for the WSOP gold and $2,792,406 that lies in wait for the champion today. In the hunt include Nick Schulman, day one chip-leader Brandon Adams, Dominik Nitsche, Igor Kurganov, and Daniel Negreanu who comes in today with a short stack of thirteen big blinds.

Event #80: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha

Players not only swap chips but entire games in this tournament as every 8 hands they rotate from playing No-Limit Hold’em to Pot Limit Omaha. Ayaz Mahmood bagged the chip lead and is aiming for his second bracelet in addition to the $304,793 prize. A large field of 1,250 entries required extending this tournament an extra day as now only 7 remain to play for the bracelet. One of the notables in the field David “ODB” Baker who already claimed a bracelet this summer saw his final table hopes crushed as he exited in tenth place.

Event #82: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Double Stack

Day two of this new event ended with 6 players looking to don their first WSOP bracelet. Freek Scholten leads the final table and has already cashed four events this Summer will look to close out on the elusive bracelet and $530,164 first place prize. This event drew a massive field of 2,589 entries including many notables who saw their way to rail yesterday including Kristen Bicknell and Ryan Laplante.

Event 84: $1,500 The Closer No-Limit Hold’em

Day 1a of the three starting flights yesterday drew to a close with online poker pro-Roman Korenev bagging the chip-lead. 463 entries in the starting flight show signs of yet another large field as the two remaining flights are expected to draw even larger numbers. The field is not without notables either as recent bracelet winner Ari EngelIan O’Hara, and Fabian Gumz all found bags to advance to day two.

Event #85: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed

After an action-filled day one saw 901 entries pony up the $3,000 to play the four card game, Paresh Doshi leads the remaining 173 survivors coming into today. $475,033 is what everyone will be eyeing as the field will condense down significantly today through ten hours of play. Two-time bracelet winner Keith LehrAnton MorgensternMartin Zamani, bracelet winner David Williams, and bracelet winner Leif Force all were able to bag healthy stacks and will look to build upon them today.

Event #73: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em MAIN EVENT – World Championship

The main event is officially down to the final table as nine players remain of the 8,569. In addition to a million dollars, the players have also earned a day off today before play resumes tomorrow. Hossein Ensan holds a massive chip lead on the table of 177 big blinds well over Gary Gates also healthy stack of 99 big blinds. Despite the big stacks, the most feared player at the table might be poker pro-Dario Sammartino. He has already amassed over eight million dollars in tournament winnings and is one player the others certainly don’t want to see gain any steam off his 33 big blind stack. Sammartino got involved in a sticky situation with 11 players left when he faced a shove Nick Marchington. After asking for a count of what he thought was a little more than 20 big blinds he made the call. However, the dealer had miscounted and the shove was for much closer to 30 big blinds. The floor ruled Sammartino was committed to call off the full amount and his tens failed to improve against Marchington’s queens.
